Invites: how Hyv grows through trusted circles

Hyv is invite-only. Every member has one personal invite link that does not expire, and each friend who joins through it uses one of your invitations. Circle owners can also invite people straight into a circle. Invites keep Hyv growing through people who already know each other.

Why invite-only

Hyv is built on trust between people who already know each other. Circles are more useful when they are dense: a dozen people who talk every week, not a crowd of strangers. An open sign-up page would fill Hyv with people who have no one to ask and nobody to be connected to. Invites keep growth tied to real relationships.

One link per member

Every member has one personal invite link. You can ask Hyv for it in plain words, or type /invites generate. It is the same link every time, and you can send it to every friend you want to bring in. It does not expire.

Each friend who joins through your link uses one of your invitations. When they run out, your link stops letting new people in until more are granted. You can check how many you have left, and who joined through your link, with /invites mine.

Inviting someone to a circle

Circle invites work a little differently. If you own or run a circle, you can invite someone directly with /circles invite. If that person is already on Hyv, they get a card to join or decline, and it costs you nothing. If they are new to Hyv, they get a one-use link that brings them into Hyv and the circle together.

What an invite does not do

Your invite link does not reveal who you are to anyone who sees it. And joining Hyv does not put anyone in a directory. There is no list of members to browse, so an invite brings someone into a circle of people they already know, not into a public network.

Optional usernames

You can claim a Hyv username if you want one, in a private chat with Hyv. You do not need one to invite people or to be invited.

If you run out and want to bring more people in, ask us. Circle owners can also bring people into their own circles.
